Instructeur national des arbitres à Las Palmas
NBA Director of Officials Ronnie Nunn
Sur invitation de FIBA Europe, Fernand Hengel a participé en tant qu'instructeur national au FIBA Europe Clinic pour Instructeurs nationaux à Las Palmas.

"The first of two clinics for Europe's National Referee Instructors and Potential Referees has just finished on Gran Canaria, Spain.

The annual clinic tipped-off last Friday, with referees, instructors and staff collected together from around the world.

Alan Richardson from the FIBA Europe Referee Department commented, "This is another step in our support and development of officiating in Europe. As we ask the referees and instructors to improve each year, so must we, so we have added some new aspects to the clinic this year, with lectures from business and life coaches, as well as giving a different perspective for improving our game knowledge".

Also in attendance for the second and third year respectively were Ronnie Nunn and Tommy Nunez, both former NBA referees. Both gave lectures to each group on the importance of Standards in Officiating and Criteria in Officiating.

One of the new elements this year was the introduction of Juan Ferrer, President of the Canarias Basketball Federation, but also a professional business coach. He spoke to the Instructors about the importance of Coaching individuals and how to communicate in the best way.

"For us it is really important to continuously raise the level of the clinic from year to year" commented FIBA Europe Head of Operations Miguel Betancor.

"Bringing in external specialists and new technologies is a big part of this development and I am proud that great experts and people like Ronnie Nunn are coming back every year.

"We are starting the future now."

FIBA Europe also looked outside basketball again inviting Jose Sanchez, who has previously worked with FIFA referees. His lecture on Energy and Communication was very well received and was rated highly amongst the participants.

Over the 3 days the referees were also put through their paces on the court, with games and direct feedback. This was combined with video feedback concentrating on mechanics and positioning as well as play calling and criteria.

One of the next projects for the Referee Department is the launch of the 2011 Teaching Materials, that have again been produced in co-operation with FIBA Americas.

The participants were able to see the Draft Version at first hand while the final version will be distributed at the beginning of July."

Luxembourg - Switzerland 65-71

Luxembourg struggles in a terrible last quarter

Luxembourg lost its first game of the Eurobasket phase 2011 against Switzerland (65:71). The team of Coach Hermann Paar wanted a second win in the Group B of the Division B, after booking a victory over Albania in 2010. Nadia Mossong and her teammates dominated the game for 30' but then Switzerland, that has the goal to finish the round at the first place, won its fith of five games and confirmed its position as favourite of the group. Luxembourg got the first advantage as Mossong hit a threepointer (3:0). The Swiss stroke back and could react when the scoreboard showed 4:3 for the guests. Then Luxembourg showed a great team performance and got a well deserved 18:14 win of the first quarter. The local team was even able to increase the gap until halftime (33:26) and so the supporters were optimistic to see a little surprize. Luxembourg was on fire and showed its skills in the third quarter, too (56:42). But a 14-point-advantage was even not enough to win this game. Jill Bausch and Co. struggled in the last quarter and lost this one by 9:29! Switzerland was smarter in the final minutes and therefore booked a further win. Luxembourg was led by Nadia Mossong (18 points and 6 rebounds) and Jill Bausch (16 points). Caroline Turin added 22 points for Switzerland, while Marielle Giroud came to 18 points and rebounds each.

– 05.06.2011 in Mersch). Die 2 Teams werden sich in jeweils drei Begegnungen gegenüber stehen und versuchen die nächsten Schritte in Richtung EM zu gehen. Die Spiele finden an folgenden Zeiten statt:

03.06.2011: 20h30 Game 1: Luxembourg vs. Ireland (Mersch Gym)
04.06.2011: 15h00 Game 2: Luxembourg vs. Ireland (Mersch Gym)
05.06.2011: 10h00 Game 3: Luxembourg vs. Ireland (Mersch Gym)
